Standish, Maine - In a month due for upsets, Colby avoided the Cinderella story and took care of business against Saint Joseph's. A 22-10 win takes the Mules to 3-2 on the season but remain 1-2 in NESCAC conference play.
Â
Colby took care of business early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. The Mules dominated on the offensive end, were first to the ground balls, and kept the Monks out on the defensive end–Will Heisler had seven first-half saves. In a half that had eighteen points shared between the sides, Doug McCarthy was the standout as he converted four of his own–matching Saint Joseph's goals for the half. Colby led heading into the break, 14-4.
Â
The Monks had a stronger second half but there was never a doubt for the Mules. Nick Sokolosky found Cormac O'Neill early in the half for his hat trick and not long after, Matt Stein and Gavin Rothenberg made it four Colby players to score at least three goals on the day. Sokolosky finished with four assists and one goal while Harrison Leenhouts became the fifth player of the day to score two or more. Rafa Bru won 17 of 22 face-offs and even got in on the scoring with an early goal.
Â
In the end, the Mules made quick work of their in-state opponents and look to carry their momentum forward as they host Hamilton on Friday, March 22nd.
