Waterville, Maine - The ninth-ranked Colby Women's Lacrosse team had their second win of the weekend today against Endicott, with a nail-biting final score of 9-8 for the Mules. Colby improves to an overall record of 3-0 for the season.
Colby started out strong, scoring twice in the first five minutes. The Mules rounded out the first quarter with a score of 4-1. The Gulls fought back in the second quarter, however, scoring three unanswered goals. Colby narrowly held on to the lead at the end of the first half at a score of 7-6. Endicott scored again quickly in the first two minutes of the second half to tie the score, but Colby fought back with two more goals and impressive defense to keep a two point lead at the end of the third quarter at 9-7. Defense was on point in the fourth quarter as well with only one goal conceded by the Mules and none conceded by the Gulls for the rest of the game. This showing by the Gulls was not enough, though, and Colby held on to the lead with a final score of 9-8.
The Mules outshot the Gulls 28 shots to 15 and controlled the vast majority of draws at 16 to Endicott's five. Both teams had players score hat tricks: Leah Black for the Gulls and
Tori Congdon for the Mules scored an impressive three goals apiece. Other notable appearances by the Mules include
Ainsley Dion's one goal, two assists, and four draw controls as well as
Ali Gill's five draw controls.
Colby faces off against Amherst in a NESCAC match at home on Saturday, March 16, at 12:00.
