Women's Basketball Becomes First NESCAC Team to Win Against Bates This Season

Lewiston, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team continues their winning streak by becoming the first NESCAC team to beat Bates College this season with a final score of 63-61. This was their last away game of the season, grossing in an impressive 750 attendees. Today's game brings the Mules' overall record to 12-9 and 4-4 for the NESCAC, while Bates now stands at 19-3 and 7-1 for the conference.

This game was an incredibly close one, with Bates actually winning the first quarter by a singular point. The teams entered halftime tied at 30, and the Bobcats once again gained a lead in the third quarter. However, the Mules bounced back significantly in the final quarter, gaining a five point advantage. This slight lead ultimately led to their victory, which was the team's first win against Bates in three years.

Kate Olenik's on-court excellence led to her securing a total of 19 points which consisted of one block, two steals, and four rebounds. Amelia Hanscom and Chelsea Ibenegbu also showcased remarkable talent, both winning 12 points. Hanscom had nine rebounds, all of which were defensive, while Ibenegbu had two rebounds and three steals.

Next, Amherst College will come to Waterville on Friday, February 9th to battle it out with the Mules.
