Waterville, Maine – Colby College is excited to announce the selection of Head Coach Greg Cumpstone, a dynamic and accomplished professional in the soccer industry with a history of success throughout all levels, as the new leader of our men's soccer program. He becomes only the third coach of the men's soccer program since 1975.
"I am deeply proud and honored to assume the role of head coach of the men's soccer program here at Colby College," said Cumpstone. "I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mike Wisecup, Casie Runksmeier, and the entire search committee for their clear commitment to this program, all of Colby Athletics, and to each and every student-athlete. I am thrilled to get started."
Colby competes in the highly competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), a conference that saw four member institutions finish the 2023 season with top-10 rankings in NCAA Division III.
After a successful career as a leader in the net and two-time captain at Hofstra University, Cumpstone played multiple seasons at the professional levels (CFC Azul Professional Development League and Ferencváros Torna Club) before turning his attention to coaching. He quickly elevated through the ranks in the premier Connecticut Rush program, from staff coach to technical director to Staff director of coaching, while also guiding Daniel Hand High School (Madison, Conn.) to multiple State Championships. After consistent success at the junior level, Cumpstone matriculated to the college ranks with his most recent post serving as associate head coach at Wesleyan University. During this time, the Cardinals consistently competed in the NESCAC championships and rose to a top-10 national ranking during the 2022-23 season.

Cumpstone holds numerous coaching accreditations from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) including a USSF B License. He has earned a United Soccer Coaches (USC) Advanced National Diploma as well as USC diplomas in sports performance, performance analysis, key moments, defending principles, attacking principles, and formations and systems
"The facilities and staff at Colby are extraordinary and it will be a privilege to work in such a professional and innovative environment," Cumpstone continued. "I am incredibly eager to get on the grass and work with the players. They are a talented, committed, and hard-working group who have shown they can compete at the highest level in this league.
