Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Aidan Simmonds

Colby Outlasted By #2 Washington University

St. Louis, Missouri - Going against the #2 ranked team in the country is no easy task, but adding a day of travel halfway across the country makes it even more challenging. However, the Mules almost did the unthinkable, hanging with Washington University for the majority of the game but ultimately coming up short. Colby lost 77-89, taking their record to 7-2 overall.

Although the Mules never led in the game, they kept their deficit to single digits and responded well to the Bears' efficient offense. Jack Lawson kept Colby in the game early as he knocked down a three-pointer to make it a one-point game. Later, he showed his versatility by finishing in the paint and getting sent to the line where the Mules shot 100% on the night. Colby finished the half strong as Dan Civello and Sam Hinman buried threes to take the Mules into the half trailing 42-47

Coming out of the break both teams looked relatively similar. Each side shot the ball to a similar percentage as in the first half but consistent makes early on from Wash U gave them momentum. The tide then shifted as Colby responded brilliantly with a run of their own. Defensively, they shut out the Bears for over three minutes while on the other end, Marcos Montiel put up five points to pull Colby within three. From then on the game grew slowly out of reach but after hanging with the #2 ranked team in the nation for the majority of the game, the Mules showed they can play to the level anyone.

Colby is back in action tomorrow against Denison.
