Men's Hockey Skates Past UMass Boston, wins 4-2

Waterville, ME - The Colby College Mules (3-1-1, 2-1-0) defeated the UMass Boston Beacons (2-6-0, 2-4-0) by a score of 4-2 in their Saturday afternoon matchup. The Mules rebounded from their shootout loss to Suffolk and look to continue their winning ways into December.

The first frame started slowly, as neither team could muster a goal through most of the period. Massimo Gentile was sent to the box for tripping at the 7:40 mark, but Colby was able to fend off the Beacons's charge. Late in the first period, Alex Keskintepe scored with Max O'Brien and Ben Morgan providing assists.

The Mules entered the second period up 1-0 and looked to add to their lead. 16:45 into the frame, Colby had a man-up advantage thanks to a UMass Boston tripping penalty. Gentile capitalized a minute and a half later, scoring from an O'Brien assist.

The third period was action packed. UMass Boston made the score 2-1 after they scored on a power play goal 6:37 into the period. Nick Stapleton was able to regain Colby's two goal advantage 14:20 into the third, scoring via a Jake MacDonald assist. Although UMass Boston was again able to make it a one score contest, finding the net with 15:33 elapsed in the third, the contest was sealed on an empty-net goal from Tyler Crist at the 19:23 mark. Gentile provided an assist on the play. The third quarter was quite sloppy for both teams, with a combined six players receiving two-minute minors.

Colby continued its hot streak at the faceoff dot, winning 36 faceoffs compared to UMass Boston's 29. Adam Costley was in net for Colby, earning 26 saves.

The Mules look to continue their winning ways on Sunday, December 1 at 1:00 PM when they face the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in Brunswick, ME.
