Schenectady, New York - In a usually tumultuous pre-conference stretch, Colby has thrived and responded brilliantly to its only loss. Last night, the Mules posted their second 100-point game in a 100-70 win over SUNY Plattsburgh, giving them their second three-game win streak this season. This win takes Colby to 6-1 overall.
The Mules led the entirety of the game but sprung to an early 8-point lead early on. Max Poulton knocked down two threes and Jack Gatjanis three free-throws to stretch their lead before the Cardinals cut their deficit back to none. This cycle continued as Colby couldn't break away from SUNY Plattsburgh until around 9 minutes to go. The Mules held the Cardinals to no baskets in four minutes while they scored nine straight. Savion Stroud made two jumpers late on and Rashard Doyal buried a triple to give Colby a ten-point lead heading into the break.
Coming out of the half, the Mules didn't let up and continued to pull away. Sam Hinman made two shots from beyond the arc and Poulton followed with one of his own to extend Colby's lead by 9. From then on, the Mules shut out the Cardinals again and stretched their lead to 21 with eight minutes to go. Hinman continued to have a strong second half while inside the paint, Jack Lawson got to the basket with ease. The senior also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, and even had a block to round out a well-rounded night.Â
Colby is back in action tomorrow in the second game of their doubleheader, playing Union College at 4:00 pm.Â
