Gorham, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to the University of Southern Maine to take on the Huskies in their second non-conference match-up of the season. Colby defeated USM 2-0, improving their record to 2-2-0 overall.
The Mules came out strong and just 5:59 into the game, sophomore Molly Lefebvre placed one in the back of the net which was assisted by Georgia Pettygrove for her second goal of the season. With an early lead in the period, the Mules played very offensively with 26 total shots and 10 out of 15 faceoff wins. The Mules ended the period with a power play opportunity but were unable to score and gain a stronger lead. Thanks to Molly Lefebve, the Mules still ended the period ahead of the Huskies with a 1-0 lead. The Mules brought the intensity at the start of the second with senior Audrey Shirer scoring a goal within the first four minutes which was assisted by Maria Pierce. The Huskies built up some pressure and had some offensive chances with continuous shots off of blocks, but Mandy Busky was a brick wall in the net allowing 0 goals for the entirety of the first and second period. The Mules made it clear that they were not done yet and wanted another goal. They maintained control of the puck for the majority of the period and were able to get off 38 total shots. They couldn't capitalize, but they ended the game with 44 overall shots compared to the Huskies seven and a shutout for goalie Mandy Busky, securing the 2-0 win.
The Mules will host the University of New England in a week after Thanksgiving.
