Colby Falls to UNE in Tight Non-Conference Match

Biddeford, Maine. - The Mules fell short against the University of New England Tuesday in a nail-biting 58-56 loss. Colby is now 2-3 overall.

Colby had a slow start that put them at an extreme disadvantage heading into the rest of the game. After getting outscored by UNE 16-12 in the first quarter, the Mules knew that a change was necessary. They rallied in the next two quarters, matching New England 15 points for 15 points in the second quarter for a 31-27 score heading into the half and then again matching UNE 16-16 for a score of 47-43 heading into the final quarter of the game. Colby's strongest push came in the last quarter, out-shooting UNE 13-9 in the quarter until the final seconds of the game. However, a last minute basket for New England stopped the Mules short, and pushed UNE over to a score of 13-11 for the quarter and securing a slim victory of 58-56 for New England.

Kate Olenik had an incredible showing for the Mules, pushing through for a full 40 minutes during which she secured a team-high 24 points and team-high four steals. Amelia Hanscom's double-double with 12 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive, and 11 points was another outstanding offensive and defensive presence for Colby. Lydia Mordarski had a well-rounded showing for the Mules, securing two-thirds of the team's blocks.

The Mules' next showdown is on the road against the Bates Bobcats at 5:30 on Tuesday, December 3.
