Big Second Half Takes Colby Past Salve Regina

Newport, Rhode Island - It was a tale of two halves tonight as Colby took down Salve Regina 82-73. After a tight first 20 minutes, the Mules ran away with the game behind a strong performance from Marcos Montiel. This win takes Colby's record to 5-1 overall.

Both teams went back and forth the whole first half. There were 15 lead changes as both teams grappled to break away from one another. Montiel had a strong first half and got Colby off to a good start to the game. Sam Hinman knocked down a three-pointer to give the Mules a two-possession lead but the Seahawks quickly responded. Max Poulton made a shot from beyond the arc and Montiel followed it up with a layup to give Colby a 38-35 point lead heading into the half.

Coming out of the break the Mules started to extend their lead. Montiel continued to knock down shots, scoring seven points in the first minute and a half. Poulton and Hinman also got hot from three, contributing to Colby going 6-9(66%) in the second half. Jack Lawson had a great game in the paint, going 8-11 on field goals and coming up with 6 rebounds. The Mules' largest lead in the game came with three minutes to go as Lawson increased the Seahawks' deficit to 16. That jumper was Colby's last point of the half as Salve Regina went on a run to end the game down 9.

Colby is in action this Saturday, November, 30th, against SUNY Plattsburgh.
