Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team hosted the Polar Bear of Bowdoin College for their second match-up of the weekend. The Mules lost 3-2 in OT as they finished the rivalry weekend.
The Mules started off strong, keeping the puck in their offensive end for the first 5 minutes into the first period. Bowdoin picked up the intensity and brought in more back and forth play into the game, but
Paige Bolyard denied all shots on goal with 6 saves. 14:10 into the period, Sophia Kennedey found herself in a two on one and buried the puck in the top shelf of the net, scoring the Mules' first goal of the weekend which was assisted by
Beth Sinson and
Megan Martodam. Keeping up the intensity in the second period, Bowdoin was able to capitalize on a power play and score a goal for the Polar Bears in the 11th minute. The Mules kept up their momentum for the rest of the period and had a power play opportunity, but wasn't able to find the back of the net, ending the second period one goal short of Bowdoin with a score of 2-1. The Mules gained their second power play opportunity of the game in the third and
Anna Staton took advantage, scoring her 2nd goal of the season assisted by
Maria Pierce and
Courtney Schumacher with 8:33 into the period. With a tied game at 2-2, the Mules upped their pressure looking for a goal but no one could answer, leading the Mules and Polar Bears into a 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime period. After a hard fought game, the Mules fell 3-2 in OT.
The Mules will travel to Gorham, Maine, and face the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.
