Brunswick, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Bowdoin College to face the Polar Bears in their first NESCAC matchup of the season. The Mules lost 0-2 in the opening game of the rivalry weekend.
After 20 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless. The Mules maintained their momentum with some great offensive opportunities out shooting the Polar Bears 29-14. The Mules and Polar Bears kept the intensity in the second period with outstanding defense from the Mules. Junior goalie
Grace Caligiuri made 11 saves. After one power play opportunity, the Mules fell short 0-1 at the end of the second. With 20 minutes left to play, Bowdoin upped the pressure, but the Mules stayed strong with eight face-off wins and 15 shots. Bowdoin scored with 25 seconds left in the game on an empty net ending the game 0-2.
The Mules will rematch the Polar Bears tomorrow afternoon in Waterville.
