Cambridge, Mass. - The Colby Women's Soccer team moved onto the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Playing at a neutral site, the Mules looked stellar from whistle to whistle. The backline has been one of the Mules' strongest assets this year, and Colby's shutdown defense continued on Saturday, resulting in their ninth shutout of the season.
The Mules got the deciding goal in the 33rd minute after CMS was called for a foul from just past midfield.
Annie Liebich stepped up and put in a cross to
Abigail Jarvi who just got a foot on it to put it past the Athena's keeper. The goal was Jarvi's eleventh on the season and Liebich's fifth assist. They were both named to the All-NESCAC team last week after sensational seasons.
Colby will be back in action on Sunday when they will fight for a place in the Sweet-16 against hosts MIT. MIT finished the regular season ranked fourth in the country and finished with an impressive 21-1-1 record. That game will kick off at 1 p.m.
