Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Double-Double From Stroud Lifts Colby Past Farmington

Waterville, Maine - Colby Men's Basketball just played 40 minutes of high-quality, relentless basketball. Their culprits, the University of Maine-Farmington, could only watch as the Mules trampled the Beavers en route to a 90-78 win–taking them to 2-0 overall.

Correcting the first sentence, Colby played thirty-five-and-a-half minutes of high-quality, relentless basketball. The four-and-a-half minutes in question were a bit nervy as the Mules started to settle in. However, they quickly crawled back from their five-point deficit as Max Poulton and Marcos Montiel traded three-pointers. The pair of guards shouldered their team in the first half, netting twelve points each to help Colby pull away. Montiel made two threes while Poulton was physical in the lane, forcing fouls and converting all three of his free throws. The Mules lead 46-37 heading into the break.

Coming out of the half it was clear Coach Strahorn instilled his wisdom in Savion Stroud because the sophomore guard had an electric last twenty minutes. Stroud started the half with eight points, knocking down a three-pointer on a fast break to give Colby a nineteen-point lead. He was not only instrumental offensively, but came up with nine rebounds in the half–tallying fourteen total on the day. Stroud's defensive efforts translated into his teammates as freshman Dan Civello came up with a huge block midway through the half. Civello then showed what he could do offensively, using his size to grab two layups but also showing his range with a dagger from beyond the arc–increasing Colby's lead to twenty-two. With three minutes to go, Stroud knocked down his third three-pointer of the half, making all but one jump shot in the second as he netted sixteen points. Freshmen Will Perkins and Mitch Humphrey got solid minutes to end the game as they saw off a late run from the Beavers to cut Colby's lead but closed out a dominant win.

Stroud recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds while Montiel and Poulton each had 18 on the day.

Colby is in action this Tuesday, November 19th, as they host cross-town rivals Thomas College at 7 pm.
