Women's Basketball Opens 2024-25 With Victory Over Plymouth

Waterville, Maine - Colby came out swinging in their season opener in a non-conference match against the Panthers of Plymouth State University. The Mules cruised by the Panthers 67-24. Colby's record improves to 1-0 overall. 

Colby's defense was on point from the start, stifling Plymouth State and keeping them at five points in the first quarter while the Mules cruised to 15 points. The Panthers got their footing a little more in the second quarter, pushing to hit 12 points, but the Mules matched the two-point improvement for their own 17 points, bringing the score to 32-12 for the Mules at the half. The third quarter was another impressive defensive accomplishment by the Mules with only three points scored in the entire quarter for Plymouth State, while the Mules pushed ahead with another 14 for a 46-15 lead at the end of the quarter. Colby had their greatest offensive push in the fourth quarter, scoring a whopping 21 points. The final score of the match was 67-24. 

The Mules had a well-rounded showing, with four players scoring in the double digits, led by Ana Von Rumohr with 12 points. Lydia Mordarski, Defne Pekinbas, and Lili Nagy each scored 11 points. Colby's defensive prowess was demonstrated by Caroline Hartley's four steals and Mordarski and Chelsea Ibenegbu's three steals apiece. Von Rumohr led the team in rebounds with nine, 

The Mules face off tomorrow at 4 pm again at home in tournament play, aiming to continue their non-conference streak.
