Waterville, Maine - The 12th nationally ranked Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team is set to begin the 2024-25 season Tuesday night, Nov. 19th, here on Mayflower Hill hosting the Suffolk University Rams. Last year the two teams met in Boston resulting in a dominant 8-0 win for the Mules.
Colby is coming off a strong 17-8-1 record from last season where they made it to the NESCAC semifinals after defeating sixth seeded Wesleyan 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
The Mules are returning eight of their nine double digit point scores from last season including junior
Beth Sinson who tallied 20 points last year (11 goals, nine assists). Other double digit performers returning to the Mules this season include;
Sophie Melsness '26 (four goals, 12 assists),
Sophia Kennedy '26 (six goals, nine assists),
Anna Staton '25 (two goals, 13 assists),
Maria Pierce '27 (five goals, nine assists),
Megan Martodam '26 (six goals, seven assists), All-NESCAC selection
Breanna Studley '26 (seven goals, four assists) and
Audrey Shirer (five goals, five assists).
On the defensive side of play, Studley led Colby in blocked shots last season (39) followed by
Jo Tattersall '26 also in the 30's with 31. All three goalies of last season return who shared the time in net,
Grace Caligiuri '26,
Paige Bolyard '25 and
Mandy Busky '25 who combined for 553 saves and a .939 save percentage last year.
The Mules will be led by four captains this season;
Sydney McCormack '25,
Jo Tattersall, Shirer and Staton and joined by six first-years looking to make an impact on the team;
Abby Tattersall,
Brooke Eselunas,
Lizzy Hamel,
Kate Pura,
Lulu Gray and
Ally Martiniello.
Holley Tyng returns as the Head Coach of Colby Women's Ice Hockey for her ninth season. She will be assisted by, former NWHL player and former assistant coach of the PHF's Metropolitan Riveters,
Ashley Johnston in her first season with the Mules.
Jillian Flynn returns as the goaltender coach for her fourth season as well as
Pertti Hasanen in his fifth year.
