Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Tennis team played their first dual match of the 2024-25 season at home on their new courts. Taking on Clark University for the first time under Coach Reeb's tenure, the Mules looked to begin their dual-match campaign on a high.
Colby started strong from the opening serve, taking the doubles point in commanding fashion. With strong serving displays and aggressive play at net, the first doubles team of senior captain Jake Cohen and first-year Marco Ziets-Segura took down their Clark opponents 6-2. Clinching the doubles point at the #3 position, first-year Diego Sosa and sophomore Paul Dandler took down their opponents in clinical fashion, defeating them 6-3. To cap things off, senior James Bogdanovic teamed up with first-year Jason Daly at the #2 position, winning a thriller 7-5 with some clutch returning from the duo.
Due to an injury that kept Cohen out of singles play, everyone on the Mules had to move up a spot, and they made the most of their opportunities. Ziets-Segura was the first to win his match, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-2 at the #4 position in dominating fashion. Sosa then took down his Clark opponent 6-1, 6-2 at the #3 position, utilizing strong forehands and impressive rally tolerance. Daly solidified things for the Mules, clinching the match 6-4, 6-1 at the #2 slot. Senior captain Josh Kaplan and senior Sriram Das also had strong showings. At the #5 position, Das showed great mental strength, winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 against a tricky Clark opponent, utilizing his net game and forehand to his advantage. At the #6 spot, Kaplan came out on top 7-5, 6-2, staying calm under pressure and playing well when it mattered most.
The Mules will be back in action Saturday, October 12th at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College.
