Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer Team closed the regular season with a 2-1 win over Bates under the lights of Bill Alfond Field. The Mules fell into a 1-0 deficit but came back to clinch their winningest season since 2006.
The game was deadlocked at 0-0 going to halftime, with neither team really threatening the other. That changed in the second half. In the 56th minute, after an errant clear, a Bates forward took a shot on goal that was saved by
MK Marshall. Unfortunately, the ball fell right to her teammate, who put the Bobcats up 1-0.
Colby continued the battle in the second half and was rewarded in the 73rd minute when a foul on the far side of the field just outside the 18-yard box teed up
Claire Walsh. She centered the ball to
Abigail Jarvi on the back post, who taped it home to tie the game.
Just 10 minutes after the equalizer,
Ella Caraluzzi led the Mules on a fast-break down the field. Caraluzzi found Jarvi on a cross to give the Mules again. Jarvi's two goals were good for a total of seven on the season.
The Mules move to 9-4-2 on the season and 3-4-2 in NESCAC play. They finish in sixth place in the NESCAC and qualify for the NESCAC playoffs for the first time since 2018. The Mules will face off against Williams next Saturday in Williamstown. Williams defeated Colby when they met in the regular season 1-0 on a late goal.
