Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Field Hockey team played Bates College on Tuesday evening. The Mules and the Bobcats played an evenly matched game, but the Bobcats were able to find the back of the net, sealing the game with a 6-2 win. The Mules finished their season with a 3-7 record in the NESCAC Conference, ranked 9th place.
Colby dominated the first quarter in terms of possession, but Bates was able to capitalize on their chances in their attacking end, finding three goals within the first 15 minutes.
Bridget Everett was able to get the Mules on the board with 30 seconds to play in the first quarter. Bates found two more goals in the second quarter, making the game 5-1 going into halftime. Colby came out hungry and ready to fight for the second half of the game, but it wasn't enough. Bates tallied another goal in the 3rd quarter, extending their lead to 6-1. Everett found her second goal of the game and ninth of the season just 30 seconds into the 4th quarter. The Mules battled until the final buzzer, but their effort wasn't enough, as Bates came out on top with a 6-2 win.
Leah Anderson and
Harri Baker found nine and four saves respectively, working hard to keep the Mules' season alive.
As the last game of the regular season, the Mules will not move on to the NESCAC tournament; however, this season marks a period of growth for the Colby Field Hockey team, as they recorded the most conference wins in their season since 2019. A lot of young players on the team show promise for next season, including
Hadley Swenson,
Avery Taylor,
Christina Sweeney, and
Bridget Everett. Current juniors
Molly Mitchell,
Lily Conway, and
Ella Brockelman have been crucial players to the team this season and will be stepping up into the senior leadership roll next season.
