Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer Team battled against number 7 unbeaten Wesleyan on Saturday, giving the Cardinals a scare at home.
Wesleyan sits atop the NESCAC standings and has not allowed a goal in seven matches. However, Colby put up seven shots giving the Wesleyan keep plenty of work. The game was deadlocked for most of the afternoon until Wesleyan snuck one past
MK Marshall for the decider.Â
Annie Liebich levied two shots on goal for the Mules as did
Claire Walsh. Defender
Samantha DeWitt provided critical help playing all 90 minutes in defense.Â
Despite the loss the Mules have shown they can hang with any team in the conference and by extension the country. Despite the loss, Colby remains in sixth place in the conference leaderboard with eleven points. With only one game remaining they have secured a playoff spot and will face one of Tufts, Williams or Middlebury in the first round.
They will take on Bates in the final regular season match up of the year on Wednesday night. That game will kick off under the lights of Bill Alfond Field at 7 PM. The first round of the NESCAC tournament is slated for next Saturday and will be hosted by the lower seed.
