Colby Volleyball Defeats Bates College to Extend Winning Streak

Lewiston, ME – Colby College volleyball continued their outstanding season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Bates College. With this victory, the Mules improved their overall record to 19-1 and their NESCAC conference record to an impressive 8-0, while the Bobcats fell to 9-10 overall and 2-7 in the conference. The Mules displayed exceptional teamwork, powerful offense, and a resilient defense, solidifying their position in the NESCAC and National standings.

In the opening set, Colby jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, eventually winning the set 25-9. Fueled by strong performances from Brady Moseley, LJ Grant, and Sydney Bopp, the Mules controlled the tempo from the service line and at the net. Bates struggled to keep pace, and Colby capitalized on several attack errors to build their lead. The second set mirrored the first in terms of Colby's offensive prowess. After a brief 2-2 tie, Colby surged ahead, powered by kills from Cyanne Jones and a well-timed block from Sarah Friedrichs. Bates struggled to keep pace, with multiple attack errors contributing to their inability to mount a comeback. The third set saw Colby firing on all cylinders, jumping out to an overwhelming 9-0 lead thanks to a series of service aces from Gabby Grujic and effective blocking at the net by Peguero and Bopp. Bates managed to break the run, but the Mules were too far gone. Colby's dominance continued with powerful kills and despite some efforts from Bates, the Bobcats couldn't catch up.

This 3-0 sweep over Bates was powered by standout performances from Moseley, who led the team with 13 kills, and Friedrichs with 8 kills. Grujic directed the offense with 17 assists and added 3 service aces, while Jordan Lee also contributed 3 aces. Defensively, Peguero and Bopp each tallied 4 blocks, and Grujic led with 10 digs. The Mules recorded 43 kills, 10 aces, and 36 assists, maintaining an impressive 0.299 hitting percentage.

Up next, the Mules will travel to Middletown, CT, to face Ithaca College on Friday. This matchup will be a key test as Colby looks to continue their strong season and prove once again that they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
