Colby Powers Past Maine Maritime in Dominant Victory

Waterville, ME – Colby Volleyball continued its dominant season, sweeping Maine Maritime Academy (25-14, 25-12, 25-18) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening. With this victory, the Mules improve their overall record to 17-1 and maintain their impressive momentum heading into the latter half of the season. Maine Maritime falls to 9-9.

Colby's well-balanced attack was led by Brady Moseley, who tallied nine kills, while LJ Grant contributed seven kills and Sarah Friedrichs added five. The Mules were also sharp from the service line, recording 11 aces, with Gabby Grujic leading the way with four aces, followed by Reese Loyd with three and Shayna Purow with two. Defensively, Olivia Drayden led Colby's efforts at the net with two blocks, while LJ Grant and Alexa Peguero chipped in with one block each. Gabby Grujic directed the offense with nine assists, and Jordan Lee and Allison Rodriguez added eight assists apiece, keeping the Mules' attack versatile and hard to contain. As a team, Colby recorded 33 kills and 30 assists.

Colby set the tone early in the match with a commanding performance in the first set, quickly taking control with strong serves and powerful attacks. The Mules capitalized on Maine Maritime's errors, building an early lead, allowing Colby to comfortably close out the set 25-13. The second set was a display of the Mules' defensive prowess, with standout blocking efforts that forced several attack errors from the Mariners. Purow's string of service aces helped Colby pull away midway through the set. The Mules' relentless defense and efficient attacking allowed them to cruise to a 25-12 win. In the final set, the Mariners fought back, managing to stay within striking distance early on. However, Colby's depth shone through as multiple players contributed to the offense. Despite a late surge by Maine Maritime, the Mules held their ground and finished the set 25-18, sealing the 3-0 sweep.

With this win, Colby improves their record and solidifies their position as one of the top teams in the nation. Now ranked #23 in NCAA Division III, the Mules return to action for a critical NESCAC clash against Tufts University this Friday in Medford, Massachusetts.
