Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lone Goal Tips #4 Middlebury Past Men's Soccer

Middlebury, Vermont - The difference between one goal is excruciating. The Mules fell to #4 ranked Middlebury, 1-0, again coming so close against NESCAC opposition and showing how wins and losses only paint part of the picture. On the bright side, Greg Cumpstone has his team playing an attractive style of football but short term, the season has earmarked the importance of profiting from close games. After the 1-0 defeat to #4 ranked Middlebury, Colby is now 4-7 overall and 0-7 in the NESCAC.

The Mules held their own against the undefeated Panthers in the first half, going close early with a shot from Chase Dolinko. With the only shot on goal in the first half between both teams, Colby looked settled throughout the half. Coming out of the break the tide quickly changed as Middlebury scored only 30 seconds after the restart. From then on the game became more strungout as Colby committed players downfield while the Panthers looked for their second. Oliver Daboo had two shots on goal, testing the Middlebury goalie into tough saves. Center-back Jacob Sams got in on the action with a strike from distance as the Mules continued to attack. Colby registered more shots and shots on goal than Middlebury in the second half–getting unlucky by conceding so early. Arkam Traore had the last chance of the half but couldn't convert, ending Colby's hopes of a comeback.

Against such difficult opponents, the Mules have held their own. Preaching relentlessly about being ever-so-close to victory is important because it shows Colby's true ability. With few remaining games to go, it'll be intriguing to see where this team ends up and what they can accomplish but so far it's been nothing short of impressive.

The Mules are back in action tomorrow as they take on Maine Maritime Academy.
