Mules Defeat #7 Continentals in Thrilling NESCAC Matchup

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team returned to home ice on Friday night to take on NESCAC opponent #7 ranked Hamilton College. The Mules came out on top with a score of 2-1, improving their record to 8-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference.

The opening period saw tons of back and forth action with both goaltenders making strong saves. The Mules fought until the very end when Colby's Audrey Shirer soared a shot over the shoulder of Hamilton's goalie in the last second of the period to give Colby a 1-0 lead. Colby maintained momentum by beating the Continentals in the faceoff circle and outshooting them 18-9 in the second period. In a mid-period scrum involving Sophia Kennedy and Meg Rittenhouse in front of the Hamilton net, Kennedy was able to find the back of the net to double Colby's lead. Rittenhouse was credited with the assist. In the third period, both teams battled but Hamilton capitalized on a scoring chance with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, making it a 2-1 game. The Mules and goaltender Paige Bolyard were able to hold the Continentals off in the final minutes to secure the victory.

The Mules are scheduled to take on Hamilton once again tomorrow afternoon.
