Plymouth, New Hampshire - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Plymouth State University to take on the Panthers in their first non-conference matchup following the holiday break. The Mules came out on top of the Panthers with a decisive 9-0 victory, improving their overall record to 7-1-0.
The Mules came out strong with
Lauren Fraser scoring her first goal of the season midway through the first period. Just four minutes later,
Jo Tattersall scored on a wrist shot from the point to make it 2-0 heading into the first intermission. The Mules dominated the second period, putting up 22 shots on net, four of those resulting in goals.
Sophie Melsness netted a power play goal just one minute into the period and
Kylie Makuh added another only twelve seconds later. The Mules continued to maintain possession and control of the game. First year
Molly Lefebvre added her first goal of the season and later Makuh scored her second of the game, giving the Mules a 6-0 lead heading into the final period. Colby commanded the rest of the game with two third period goals coming from
Sophia Kennedy and a power play goal from
Maria Pierce. Goaltender
Mandy Busky earned her first shutout of the season with 14 saves.
Colby will return to NESCAC play this weekend, hosting the Hamilton Continentals.
