Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team sounded the horn five times en route to a 5-0 shutout of Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in an important NESCAC matchup. The Mules improved to 4-7-2 overall (2-5-2 in NESCAC) while the Cardinals fell to 3-9-1 overall.
The first period saw Colby work out in front when first-year
Donovan O'Neil (headline photo) tallied his second score of the season four minutes into play. While the remainder of the period played out even, the horn didn't stp sounding in the second, rattling the rafters of the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum with four second period scores. O'Neil scored his second of the game early in the frame, and
Henry Molson,
John McElaney, and
Tyler Crist combined for three goals in the final four minutes of action to head into the second intermission with a 5-0 lead. McElaney's team-leading fifth score of the season came shorthanded when the captain intercepted an errant pass mid-ice, raced ahead and forced the puck through the Cardinal goaltender's five-hole. Christ's goal was his first of the season, capping a 5-on-3 power play.
After a scoreless third period Colby goaltender
Andy Beran completed his second shutout of the season turning away all 19 Wesleyan shots on goal.
