Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Mules and Bantams Battle to the End

Waterville, Maine - In what has developed into quite a rivalry over recent years, the Colby Men's Ice Hockey team welcomed the Trinity College Bantams for a NESCAC matchup Friday night.  Despite even ice throughout almost the entire 60 minutes, the 10th-ranked Bantams walked away with a 4-2 victory to stay undefeated in conference play while the Mules fall to 3-7-2 overall.

A scoreless first period saw only 10 combined shots on goal as Colby and Trinity battled for possession and struggled to penetrate the crease.  Valuable shots on goal would remain a theme the entire match, as would both defenses working hard to allow their goaltenders clear sight and defending shots from the point.  The two combined for 25 blocked shots throughout the game, with Jack Sullivan and Max O'Brien collecting three each out of Colby's 14.

The second period showed a little vulnerability as the visitors tallied goals at the front and back end of the frame.  The Mules gained one back with seconds left to play in the period when Colby won a faceoff in Trinity's end, worked the puck around the boards, and Dhillon Wilde (headline photo) found the back of the net off assists from Matthew MacDonald and Sullivan. Colby earned the equalizer early in the third period when it was once again Wilde from MacDonald, but this time Jayden Mullens served up the secondary assist.  As the Colby faithful was preparing for a potential 3-on-3 overtime event, Trinity was able to sneak one more past goaltender Andy Beran with three minutes to play.  The Bantams finished the job with a late empty net score.

The Mules are back in action Saturday hosting the Cardinals of Wesleyan University.
