Ephs Loss Shows the Mules Are the Only Ones Who Determine Their Fate

Waterville, Maine - In thier third conference game of the season, Colby looked to grab their first NESCAC win and kickstart their season but the Williams Ephs topped the Mules 45-68, taking them to 7-8 on the season and 0-3 in the NESCAC.

Both teams showed up for a shootout. Lucas Green knocked down an early go-ahead three, prompting one on the opposite end in response. The Ephs dominated the paint early while the Mules stretched the floor knocking down three-pointers. On the defensive end, Max Poulton came up with a block on a layup to put a temporary stop on Williams' paint efficiency. The high percentage of made shots quickly fell, combined with multiple fouls, killed momentum for both teams. Kameran Rodriguez had a strong half, getting to the rim with lethal crossovers and finding the extra man with no-look passes when he was covered. To end the half Colby trailed 19-26 leaving plenty of time to comeback.

However, coming out of the break the narrative remained the same with Williams leading. Poulton brought the game within eight from two jumpers but the Ephs quickly pulled away to a 20-point lead. The Mules got some momentum going after a three-pointer and steal from Ben Kaczmarek. Rashard Doyal made an impact in the final part of the game with a smooth jumper from the top of the arc but ultimately Colby was kept at bay.

Colby is back in action tomorrow when NESCAC foes Middlebury visit Waterville.
