Biddeford, Maine - The ninth-ranked University of New Englad Nor'Easters, winners of five straight, defeated the Colby Men's Ice Hockey team 4-1 Tuesday night in Biddeford. Colby falls to 3-6-2 while UNE improves to 10-2-2.
The hosts were able to jump out to a two-goal lead after the first period, connecting at the 7th minute for a power play goal and again at the 14th minute, this time at even strength. The two teams were even in shots on goal in the opening frame, with
Andy Beran making eight saves.
Colby was able to get one back early in the second period as first-year
Bobby Landry (headline photo) scored his second goal of the season, capitalizing on Colby's first power play of the night. Assists on the score came from
John McElaney and
Jayden Grier. UNE kept the pressure on, scoring twice more to close out the second with a 4-1 lead. Beran did his best to keep the Mules in the game, turning away 13 second period shots. Despite winning the battle in the third period with 11 shots on goal (to UNE's four), Colby was unable to penetrate the crease, falling to one of the top teams in all of New England. The four goals scored by UNE came from four different goal scorers, including Garrett Devine and Jayden Price who are tied atop the UNE scorers rankings.
Colby is back in action Friday hosting #10 Trinity College and Saturday hosting Wsleyan University.
