Waterville, Maine — Coming off a challenging road contest last weekend, the Mules finish with a 1-1 tie against Tufts University.
In the first half, the Jumbos came out of the gate with aggressive offense and secured an early lead. In the 7th minute of the game, the Jumbos scored their first goal. A few minutes later, Sophie DiGrande went for a goal attempt that was blocked by the Jumbos' goalkeeper. Both teams had numerous shots on goal in the first half. Colby tallied five shots, and Tufts had eight. Despite these attempts, the half ended with Tufts holding a 1-0 lead.
The second half started with fouls from both teams, displaying their efforts to hold possession of the ball. With lights-out goalkeeping from MK Marshall, the Mules were able to hold Tufts to the one goal that they scored at the beginning of the game. Marshall made a total of eight saves. Sophie DiGrande and Pepper Joseph led the Mules with shots today, but it was first-year Samantha DeWitt who earned the tying goal, making the score 1-1. A Colby corner kick fell to the edge of the box and DeWitt curled a shot to the corner of the net. This was DeWitt's first goal of her collegiate career, which was assisted by Murphy Leung. Although the Jumbos tested Colby's defense in the last 15 minutes of the game, the Mules kept them at one goal, maintaining a tied score.
The Mules will be home again next weekend for another NESCAC contest. They will take on Middlebury College on Saturday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m.
