HARTFORD, Conn. - The Colby College Volleyball team faced Trinity College this Saturday for their second NESCAC game of the heated weekend. The Mules confronted the Bantams with the hope of regaining their momentum after yesterday's setback. However, despite a solid performance, Colby struggled to seal the deal at the end of each set and ultimately lost all three sets to Trinity (25-20, 25-19, 25-21). This brings the Mules' record to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC conference, while the Bantams improved to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
In the early stages of the first set, Trinity took the lead, prompting the Mules to battle back and make efforts to level the playing field. While there were instances of successful equalization, the Bantams ultimately secured the first set with a score of 25-20. Similarly, in the second set, Colby mounted a spirited rally and managed to tie the score at 8-8. However, Trinity continued to hold the lead at 20-12 until
Olivia Drayden delivered a crucial kill. The Mules made a valiant effort to close the gap, reaching 19 points, but their determined push fell short as the Bantams secured the set with a score of 25-19. The final set was another closely contested battle, characterized by a continuous back-and-forth between offense and defense. In the end, Trinity emerged victorious, sealing the game with a score of 25-21. Unfortunately, Colby narrowly missed the win, falling short by just four points.
As a team, the Mules accumulated a total of seven blocks compared to the Bantams' six and recorded 34 kills and 48 digs.
Hannah Wyllie led the team defensively with an impressive five blocks and offensively with five kills, demonstrating her prowess at the net. In terms of assists,
Gabby Grujic orchestrated the offense effectively, contributing 12 assists, while
Allison Rodriguez closely followed with eight assists. On the attack front, collectively spearheading Colby's offensive efforts in the game, sophomore
Emma Davis battled nine kills while Drayden tallied six kills.
The Colby Volleyball team remains determined as they head into their final game of the weekend tomorrow against Brandeis University at 1 p.m. The team is eagerly anticipating this matchup and is focused on a positive outcome.
