PROVIDENCE, R.I.- On Friday, the Wildcat Center in Rhode Island was abuzz with action as the Colby College Volleyball Team, built on their momentum, accumulated a thrilling four-set triumph over JWU-Providence (25-19, 20-25, 25-14, 25-13). This victory increases Colby's win streak to four and their overall record to 6-2 while the Wildcats drop to 2-8.
The first set kicked off with an early advantage for the Mules, establishing a 10-4 lead. Although the Wildcats made several attempts to level the score and regain the lead, Colby maintained their edge and ultimately grabbed the set with a score of 25-19. The second set served as a wake-up call for JWU-Providence, as they surged ahead with determination, quickly reaching a 22-13 lead. However, the Mules rallied and managed to close the gap, coming within seven points. Despite their effort, the Wildcats ultimately secured the set with a score of 25-20. Following this setback, Colby regrouped and dominated the last two sets, winning convincingly with scores of 25-14 and 25-13.
First-years took center stage in this game, with
Brady Moseley leading the charge, amassing an impressive 10 kills while maintaining a remarkable .350 hitting efficiency on 20 attempts. Notably,
Azariah Love and
Sophie Broesamle also made significant contributions, each tallying seven kills. On the defensive side, first-year players
Olivia Drayden and
Sarah Friedrichs played pivotal roles at the net, each recording three blocks, effectively denying the opposing team from scoring. Facilitating the team's offensive plays,
Allison Rodriguez made significant contributions with 17 assists, closely followed by
Jordan Lee with 14 assists. A standout performer was
Reanna Yadao, whose exceptional performance as a libero resulted in an impressive total of 15 digs and three aces.
Colby is gearing up to return to action in Babson Park on Saturday at 1:00 pm, where they will play two games, one against the United States Coast Guard Academy and the other against Babson College.
