Waterville, Maine - This afternoon, the Colby College Football team fell victim to Trinity's NESCAC dominance. Undefeated in the past two seasons, the Bantams kept that streak alive today, knocking off the Mules 48-7.
The Mules defense came out strong to start the game, forcing a four and out with back to back stops from
Julian Young, setting up the offense inside Trinity's half. From there, Colby drove down the field and converted on a 3rd and goal as
Miles Drake lofted a ball into the back corner of the end zone, connecting with
Jack Sawyer who rose up over his defender for a five yard touchdown. The defense stayed relentless, holding Trinity to three field goals to end the half, capitalizing on an interception from Drake to win the ball back immediately off a strip sack by
Sebastian Romain, which was recovered by
Andrew Hart. Colby went into the half trailing 7-9.
The second half was tougher sledding for the Mules. An offensive clinic from Trinity saw four touchdowns converted in the third quarter as well as a muffed snap on a punt going out of the back of the end zone for a safety, taking Trinity's lead to 39-7. Two more touchdowns from Trinity stretched the game out further for a final score of 48-7.
NESCAC-leading tackler Young had a standout day, posting 12 tackles.
Next week Colby travels to Lewiston, Maine to take on Bates as both teams are looking for their first win. Offensive efficiency and a solid second half will be integral for Colby to knock off their regional foes.
