Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Colby Men's Soccer Holds the University of Southern Maine to a 4-0 Shutout

Waterville, Maine — Tonight, Colby Men's Soccer exploded past the University of Southern Maine in a 4-0 victory, continuing their streak of no losses this season.

The Mules dominated the field tonight in their third game of the season, making their record 2-0-1. Throughout the game, combined efforts from the Mule's goalkeepers Brendan McCarthy and Gus Confalone held USM to a scoreless game. Aside from Colby's solid defense and goalkeeping, it was their offense in the second half that stole the show.

In the first 10 minutes of the game, there were already two shots on goal from Eduardo Casanova and Myles Culley, followed by four more shots by the Mules who continued to challenge USM's defense. Although Colby wasn't able to secure any goals in the first half, they broke it open in the 62nd minute with a goal by Nicholas Donnelly to the top of the net assisted by Lleyton Bristow. Seven minutes later, Joseph Beshel scored his first collegiate goal in the top left corner assisted by first-year Andrew Kirwan. Only three minutes after the second goal, a third was scored in the bottom left of the goal again by Nicholas Donnelly (assisted by Aidan O'Brien), his third goal of the season. Colby wasn't content with the three-goal lead, as Nicholas Donnelly yet again came in with his third goal of the game in the 87th minute of the game assisted by first-year Jacob Sams. Up until the last minute, Colby kept the pressure on USM and earned another well-deserved win over the Huskies.

For Colby's next game, they'll hit the road this weekend to head down to Trinity College. Colby will be playing the Bantams on Saturday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m.
