Waterville, Maine - On Wednesday evening, the 12th-ranked Colby College Women's Lacrosse team secured another win against the University of Southern Maine with a score of 14-3 in a non-conference game held at Bill Alfond Field in Waterville. This victory increases their win streak to seven and their overall record to 7-3 while the Huskies drop to 5-6.
The Mules dominated the matchup and outscored Southern Maine in all four quarters with a total of 36 shots recorded against six. Colby started off strong with seven goals in the first quarter, including two goals by
Cami McDonald and
Julia Jardina.
Gianna Bruno assisted on two goals and scored one herself in the final seconds of the quarter. In the second quarter, the Mules scored two more times while keeping the Huskies scoreless for the majority of the quarter until Cierra Hill managed to score on a free position shot with just over three minutes left in the half.
The second half saw
Kins Helmer and
Ali Gill score her first and second goals of the season while
Gennie Littlejohn registered her first season goal, with Gill also assisting on Helmer's second goal. Gill's second goal made her the only player to score in the final frame, bringing the final score to 14-3 in favor of Colby.
The Women's Lacrosse team will travel down to Amherst College April 8th for their sixth NESCAC battle of the season hoping to pursue their winning streak.
