Waterville, ME - Colby Men's Tennis fell 8-1 to 5th ranked Middlebury 8-1 on Saturday, April 15th.
The Panthers got off to a hot start in the doubles and took a 2-1 lead. At line 1, senior captain Jan Wenger and sophomore Jake Cohen fell 8-3. On court 2, junior Sam Henry and sophomore James Bogdanovic were edged in final game 8-6. The point for the Mules came at line 3, where junior captain Joey Barrett and freshman Aidan Kwong took down their opponents 8-6.
The Mules were unable to find a victory in the singles, although they did not go down without a fight. On court 1, Barrett took the first set over the top player in the NESCAC, junior Noah Laber, but eventually fell in the match tiebreak 6-7, 6-4, 10-5. On court 2, Cohen put up a battle in the first set, but came up just short, losing 7-6, 6-1.Â
The Mules celebrated the careers of seniors Wenger, Ben Powis and Josh Fleishman. At line 3, Wenger fell 6-1, 7-6. Powis, at line 4, lost 6-4, 6-1.Â
The Mules continue NESCAC play against 6th ranked Williams on Sunday, April 16th.
