New London, Conn. – On this rainy Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field, the Colby Women's Lacrosse team returned on their victorious path and won their fifth game of the season against NESCAC opponent the Conn. College Camels with a standing score of 18-6. The win brings the Mules' record to 5-3 overall and 3-2 conference.
Colby was led by
Ally Franz and
Annie Eddy, who scored 10 goals combined, and
Gianna Bruno who registered five assists. The Mules dominated field position throughout the game,
outshooting Conn. 33 shots against 12. The matchup started off strong for the Colby's offense with six successful goals by four different players. In the second quarter, Franz scored three consecutive goals to put Colby up 9-0. Conn aimed to close the gap before halftime and responded by scoring four goals.
In the second half, the Mules scored six consecutive goals to take a 17-5 lead heading into the final quarter. Despite scoring chances being scarce due to the rainy conditions, Franz scored Colby's final goal of the game and increased their lead to 12. The Mules also registered a total of 24 grounds balls against 15 for the Camels demonstrating their strong effort in winning possession battles throughout the game which brought Colby closer to the win.
Tomorrow, the Women's Lacrosse team will aim for another win in Bristol where they will face Roger Williams University in an out-of-conference matchup.
