Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Colby Tops Wesleyan in an Intense NESCAC Matchup

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Lacrosse team triumphed once again on their home turf winning their first NESCAC game of the season against Wesleyan University (5-1 overall). The closely contested match on Sunday delivered the Cardinals their first loss of the season by a score of 13-12. Colby's win brings their NESCAC record to 1-2 and their overall record to 2-3, while the 7th-ranked undefeated Wesleyan drops to 1-1 in conference play.

The Mules started strong and took the lead by scoring six goals during the first quarter, despite the Cardinals' potent defense with three saves. Colby secured two more goals in the second quarter, but Wesleyan caught up and closed the score deficit to one goal by halftime. The teams equalized in the third quarter, with Wesleyan tying the score at 10 to enter the fourth quarter. Despite the back-and-forth action, the Mules kept the suspense until the last five minutes of the final quarter and secured their first conference victory with a goal by Paige Saudek.

The powerful duo of Gianna Bruno and Saudek were the leading scorers, with three goals each, followed by Julia Jardina and Elizabeth Hennessey with two apiece. Colby's win was also assisted by sophomore Ainsley Dion, who led the Mules with eight ground balls, nine draw controls, and her first goal of the season.

The Mules will head on the road to Chicago and face the 16th-ranked University of Chicago on March 22nd for another captivating game.
