Lake Placid, N.Y. - The alpine team was back in action for the third day of the NCAA Championships. Battling in soft conditions at Whiteface Mountain, the Mules wrapped up a historic season. All three qualifiers finished inside the top 30, giving Colby 15 points on the day.
The men got the action underway, with
Chauncey Morgan skiing to 23rd on the first run.
Lydia Riddell, hot off her All-American result on Wednesday, skied to 28th, with
Ella Spear narrowly ahead of her in 26th.
Good weather buoyed another great day of racing, with temperatures in the mid-30s and the sun shining. The Mules were looking to take advantage of their early bibs on the second run and made modest gains in a stacked field.
Riddell skied with composure to finish the day in 25th, wrapping up a fantastic series for her. Morgan held his ground in 23rd, with his memorable career as a Mule coming to a close.
Ella Spear was forced to hike but still finished the day in 30th and was able to add to the Mules' scoring efforts.
After the day, the Mules remain in 15th place with 46 points. NCAA Championships wrap up on Saturday with the Nordic team in action for the 20k classic race. The alpine Mules will continue racing around New England for a few weeks in preparation for next season.
