Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team took on NESCAC rival Bates midday Saturday with the Mules falling 55-68. Colby is now 8-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Before the matchup, the Mules honored their two seniors in
Sophie Webb and
Mackenzie Younker.
It was a tight game throughout the first half with the scoring be shared among Colby's lineup.
Caroline Smith led the way with nine first half points as the Mules found themselves down only six points. Going into the third the Bobcats controlled the quarter as they kept it around a 10 point lead. Then with six minutes to play in the game Colby started to come alive knocking down their shots and stopping Bates offensively narrowing the Bobcats lead to only four points. However the Mules found themselves in foul trouble leading to multiple Bobcat free throws and the final score of 55-68.
Smith finished the game knotting 13 points and five assist with Lydia Mordarkski netting 12 points followed by both
Carter McGloon (12 rebounds, six offensive) and
Chelsea Ibenegbu with nine points.
The Mules will hit the road next weekend for their final two games of the regular season. First in a matchup against Amherst on Friday and then Hamilton on Saturday.
