Waterville, Maine- Colby Men's Hockey honored their five seniors in their final regular season home game against the second-ranked team in the NESCAC, Wesleyan University.
Â
Just halfway into the first period,
Jake MacDonald set
John McElaney up in front of the net to notch the first goal of the game for the Mules. Strong defense led the Mules through the remainder of the period to maintain the one goal lead. In the second period, Wesleyan outshot Colby 11-7, but had no luck sneaking the puck past goaltender
Andy Beran. This scoreless period was highlighted by a spectacular save by Beran to keep the Cardinals without a goal. The Mules took off in the third period, with McElaney tallying his second goal of the game, and tenth of the season just fifty-four seconds into the third, courtesy of
Carter Breitenfeldt, who found McElaney on the breakaway. Breitenfeldt would find
Ryan Doolin with seven minutes to play, putting Colby up 3-0. Wesleyan would pull their goalie with just under five minutes to play, which was taken advantage of as Doolin scored an empty-netter goal to finish the game with a 4-0 win for the Mules. Beran finished the day with 25 saves and Breitenfeldt led the offense tallying three points.
Â
Thank you to the five seniors,
Alex Bourhas,
Carter Breitenfeldt,
Drew Burke,
Jake Klein, and
Jacob Thousand for their four years of dedication to Colby Men's Ice Hockey.
Â
The Mules will head down to Connecticut College next Friday, February 16, to begin the last weekend of the regular season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM in New London, CT.
