Colby Secures Playoff Spot With Victory Over Amherst

Waterville, MAINE- With the NESCAC playoffs starting next week, the Mules returned home hoping to gain some places in the standing. The first test for Colby would be Amherst, who stood one place above them in the standings before tonight. However, the Mules dominated the game and got a convincing 71-56 victory to move up the standings. The win takes the Mules to 17-6 and drops the Mammoths to 9-14.

The Mules left off where they finished against Bates as they used a combination of solid defense and timely shooting to build a 37-34 halftime lead. Colby converted ten first-half Amherst turnovers into eight points. Will King led the Mules scoring ten points, while Alec McGovern contributed an additional eight.

The second half saw Colby shoot the ball much better, hitting 50 percent of their shots, and used strong defense to force Amherst into hitting only 28 percent of their shots. King led the scoring again for the Mules in the second as he had 14, which gave him a season-high 24 points. Noah Tyson contributed six, while Jonah Obi had five.

The Mules conclude their season tomorrow by taking on Hamilton at 3 pm.
