Babson Park, Mass. - The Colby College Women's Basketball team after a 20 day break from competition took down SUNY Oneonta Friday with a 54-43 scoreline in day one of Babson's Judy Pearson '84 Memorial Tournament. This improves the Mules record to 8-3 on the season as the Red Dragons drop to 2-6.
Following a close first half score with Colby up one 26-25, the Mules came out for the second half ready to go. In the third quater Colby outscored their opponents 19-8 by playing elite defense as Oneonta shot only 2-15 from the floor. Despite the final quarter being close just like the first half of the game with a score of 10-9, the Mules secured the victory because of their big third quarter effort. Another major impact on the win was Colby's ability to rack up 16 points off Red Dragon turnovers while only giving up four.
Amelia Hanscom led the offensive charge for the Mules netting 16 while grabbing a whopping 15 rebounds (career-high) and two blocks.
Kate Olenik was close behind securing 14 points, nine rebounds, and three steals as
Carter McGloon finished with ten points and seven rebounds.
Colby will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Babson tournament taking on Susquehanna University at noon.
