Waltham, Mass. - Turns out the 19th ranked Division 3 team in the nation is pretty good as Emory took the win against the Colby Men's Basketball team winning 87-57 in the first of two UAA Challenge matchups. The loss takes the Mules to 4-3 on the season.
Despite the Eagles getting out to an early lead, freshman Marcos Montiel had a strong first half, shooting 3 for 5 from three en route to 13 points in the first half as well as Max Poulton as the two combined for first 60% of the team's points in the opening half. At the break the Mules found themsleves down, 30-46.
Coming out of the break, Coach Strahorn rotated the squad more. In the first half, the starting five played the majority of the minutes but in the latter half were rested. Freshman Matthew Lamy came off the bench to score five points in his eight minutes of play while Henry Westrich added four of his own with two steals. Montiel continued to perform well with five points in just five minutes as he was rested for the game tomorrow. Montiel ended the game shooting four for seven from three with eighteen points. Poulton shot three for five from three with eleven points and Lucas Green contributed seven points to round out the Mules' top scorers.
It was a tough loss for Colby against an even tougher opponent. Colby is back in action tomorrow in their second UAA Challenge game against Brandeis at 3:00pm.
