Waltham, Massachusetts - Their second game of the 2023 UAA Challenge went like the first as Colby fell to Brandeis by 20. The Mules lost 57-77, taking their record to 4-4 overall but have yet to play a NESCAC conference game.
Jack Lawson and Matthew Lamy had a day. The sophomore and freshman respectively combined for 35 of Colby's 57 points. Lawson had 16 of his 25 in the first half as he dominated inside the paint. The game started poorly for the Mules as Brandeis went on a 20-3 run. Lawson had 14 of Colby's first 19 points. Lamy got on the board shortly after with two threes, assisted by none other than Lawson and Savion Stroud. Turnovers and offensive inefficiency were Colby's kryptonite as Brandeis forced seven turnovers. On the scoring end, the Mules only had four players make baskets. Colby trailed heading into the half, 30-46.
Coming out of the break, the Mules' deficit didn't get better as Brandeis extended their lead. On the offensive end, a larger rotation of players led to multiple scorers. Stroud had four points in the second half while Lucas Green had five, making one of Colby's threes in the half. The other two came from Sam Hinman and Lawson, the latter had nine points in his eight minutes on the floor. Continuing his momentum from the first half, Lamy had another two points and a steal, ending the night with a career high 10 points. The Mules had a rough night but in the end performances by upperclassmen Green and Lawson combined with points from freshmen Lamy and Stroud made for a promising outlook heading into a must win next few games.
Colby is back in action Tuesday, December 5th as they head west to take on in-state opponents Maine-Farmington at 7:00pm.
