Fairfield, Connecticut - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Sacred Heart University to take on the Morrisville State College Mustangs on Sunday afternoon. The Mules defeated the Mustangs 4-0, earning their second shutout win of the season, improving their overall record to 2-0-0.
Early on the Mules' penalty kill shut down two Morrisville power play attempts to maintain a scoreless first period. In the second period,
Sophie Melsness netted her first goal of the season off an assist from
Audrey Shirer. The Mules later capitalized on one of four second period power play attempts when
Georgia Pettygrove scored, giving Colby a 2-0 lead.
Beth Sinson added a third goal to secure the lead and
Maria Pierce added an empty netter and her first career goal to seal the deal for the Mules.
Grace Caligiuri maintained the shutout for the Mules, tallying 19 saves on the game.
Colby will face off against the Bowdoin Polar Bears on Friday at home.
