Brunswick, Maine - In the opening match up of the Colby-Bowdoin Classic, the Colby Men's Ice Hockey team fell 2-0 to the Pilgrims of New England College Saturday afternoon. Bowdoin hosts two matches Saturday (Colby vs NEC, Bowdoin vs Suffolk) while Colby hosts Sundays games (Bowdoin vs NEC, Colby vs Suffolk).
Despite out-shooting NEC in every period (7-6 in the first, 6-5 in the second, 12-4 in the third), the Pilgrims capitalized on two power play goals and great goaltending to earn the victory. Kai Tomita turned away all 25 of Colby's shots to earn his first shutout of the season. Colby goalie
Andy Beran turned away 13 of the 15 shots he faced.
The Mules are back in action Sunday for the finale of the Classic, facing Suffolk University at 4:00pm.
