Waterville, Maine - Tied 0-0 after one period and 2-2 after the second, the Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team rode four third period goals to their second win of the season in the matinee of the Colby-Bowdoin Classic Sunday.
Despite a scoreless first frame, Suffolk opened the scoring early in the second period, the first of nine collective goals on the evening.
Henry Molson tallied back for Colby at the 12-minute mark followed less than two minutes later by
John McElaney, as the Mules leaped into the lead 2-1. The visitors were able to score once more in the period, sending the two opponents into the final frame locked at two goals apiece.
Colby opened the scoring in the third period with three straight goals (
Javi Ubarri, Molson's second,
Jayden Grier), and despite a Suffolk goal with just over a minute left in regulation, a late empty-netter by
Max Abene pushed the Mules to the finish line with a 6-3 victory. Molson led all scorers with two goals and two assists, while McElaney tallied one goal and two assists. Goaltender
Andy Beran totaled 22 saves in net.
Colby is back in action Saturday night hosting Bowdoin College in the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum. The puck drops at 7:00pm.
