Waterville, Maine - In a cross-town rivals matchup, the Colby Women's Basketball team defeated the Thomas Terriers 62-52. The Mules improve to 5-1 on the season while Thomas gets setback to 2-4.
The Terriers got off to a strong start with a five point lead after the first quarter but Colby responded, closing the gap to take a one point, 30-29 lead into the halftime break. In the third, the Mules kicked it up a notch outscoring the hosts by ten for an eleven point advantage heading into the final frame. This momentum stuck with Colby as they led the rest of the way grabbing a 62-52 victory. As a team the Mules doubled Thomas for points in the paint (40 to 20) while also recording 13 fast break points to the Terriers three, both key factors in the Tuesday night win.
After being named NESCAC Player of the Week for Women's Basketball last week, first-year
Kate Olenik continued putting up big numbers contributing 20 points and four steals.
Amelia Hanscom recorded a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while
Carter McGloon added on 11 points and seven rebounds.
Colby will be back in action Tuesday night taking on Maine Maritime Academy in Castine at 7:00pm.
