Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team defeated 13th-ranked Babson Sunday 74-58 to take the crown for the Colby Tip Off Tournament, notching their third win in a row. The Mules improve to 4-1 on the season while the Beavers fall to 2-2.
Lydia Mordarski had the hot hand out of the gate, scoring eight of the team's first quarter points as the Mules built a 14-11 lead after one frame. Colby extended their lead to 33-23 as Mordarski netted two more three-pointers and four other Mules collected points in the period. Colby outscored Babson in the third and fourth quarters as well, leading to a clean sweep in all four quarters. The dominant performance saw five Colby players in double-digits on the afternoon, led by Mordarski with 17 and three first-years:
Kate Olenik (13),
Amelia Hanscom (13), and
Ana Von Rumohr (12).
Chelsea Ibenegbu rounded out the quintet with 11. Mordarski, Hanscom, and Ibenegbu led the way with six rebounds apiece.
Olenik was named tournament MVP after totaling 29 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four assists, and two blocks across the set.
Colby is back in action Tuesday afternoon across town at Thomas College before heading into the Thanksgiving break.
